Contemporary abstract painting, sculpture and public space
Nathan Ingram is an Ōtautahi Christchurch-based artist whose practice spans painting, sculpture and public space. Drawing on architecture, design and urban visual culture, he develops works that investigate spatial systems, movement and reconstruction. Through a visual language realised across multiple scales and materials, his work explores how environments are experienced, disrupted and reimagined.
STUDIO WORKS
Ingram’s layered compositions explore the interplay between control and spontaneity, surface and depth. Painted on glass and using both sides of the plane, the works are at times physically layered to amplify spatial tension. They blur the line between object and image. Defined by a dialogue between fluid mark-making and precise surface treatment, these paintings invite viewers to consider what is revealed, concealed, and constructed through gesture and material.
pUBLIC SPACE
Ingram's public works extend the visual language of his studio practice into shared environments. Working across architecture, landscape and civic contexts, his projects explore movement, place and spatial interaction through abstraction
PRIVATE COMMISsIONS
Alongside gallery exhibitions and public projects, Nathan Ingram collaborates with private collectors, architects and organisations to develop commissioned artworks informed by his contemporary abstract practice. Working across painting, sculpture and installation, each project responds to its environment while remaining connected to the visual language, materials and ideas explored throughout the artist's wider body of work.
