ABOUT Nathan

Nathan Ingram is a multidisciplinary artist and designer based in Ōtautahi Christchurch. His practice moves fluidly between studio-based painting, sculpture, and large-scale public works, drawing on the visual language of the urban environment to create layered, abstract compositions.

Ingram’s work spans geometric murals, gestural glass paintings, and refined sculptural forms, each exploring a tension between control and spontaneity. Surface, colour, and mark-making are central to his process, whether building complex works in reverse on glass or developing floating sculptural forms that shift in space.

With a career spanning over 2 decades in the creative sector, Ingram’s work has been commissioned by leading institutions, festivals, and private collectors across Aotearoa and internationally. Held in significant public and private collections, his evolving body of work reflects a commitment to refined execution, material inquiry, and the dynamic energy of contemporary abstraction.

In addition to his art practice, Ingram teaches into the Bachelor of Design at Ara Institute of Canterbury, where he mentors emerging designers and artists in the development of creative and technical skills. He is also a founding member and co-director of Fiksate Gallery, a leading urban contemporary art space that bridges the fields of fine art, design, and contemporary culture.
